Lannie McMillan
has been a lifelong, full-time career professional in the music industry for over 30 years.

He graduated from Memphis State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. He has worked in a wide scope of musical endeavors, both in the Memphis, TN, as well as touring with many well-known acts across the United States and abroad.

He has been a staff musician at many of the recording studios in Memphis, such as Stax Records from 1970-75, Shoe Productions from 1981-84, and the Hi-Cream Studios with Willie Mitchell from 1973-83. He is currently the staff writer and arranger with Mr. Mitchell’s current studio, Royal Studio.

Mr. McMillan has performed with many well-known jazz artists, including Stan Kenton - Buddy DeFranco, Lou Soloffm Dizzy Gillespiem Clark Terrym Louis Bellson, Maynard Ferguson, and Don Menza.

He was a staff musician with Sight and Sound Studios in New York, NY, as well as touring with Evelyn Champagne King from 1979-81.

He has performed on album sessions and tours for many artists that include:
▪ Isaac Hayes, album sessions and road tours for ‘Shaft’ and ‘Black Moses’, 1971-74;
▪ Isaac Hayes and Dionne Warwick, 1973, album sessions and concerts, Capitol Records, Los Angeles;
▪ The Staple Singers, album sessions on ‘I’ll Take You There’ and ‘Come Go With Me’, 1973-4, as well as concert, ‘WATTS/STAX’, Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, 1977;
▪ The Moody Blues, 1975 album session (third album);
▪ Peabo Bryson, 1981, album session and concert for first album, ‘PEABO’.

He has also performed on album sessions for many other artists, such as Foghat, Latoya Jackson, Kool and the Gang and Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well as the sessions and some solo work on Al Green's 2003 album and video, 'I Can't Stop'.

Some other credits include:
Participation in a blues seminar given at King George College in Maryland, October, 1993.
Performances at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, July 1993.

Lannie has performed in two major motion pictures filmed here in Memphis:
‘Great Balls of Fire’, 1988
'The Firm', with Tom Cruise, Paramount Pictures with his own group, The Lannie McMillan Quartet, 1992.

He has also performed with many of the bands in the Memphis, TN area, as well as having been in the house bands of all the major clubs and venues in Memphis, including the Rum Boogie Café and B.B. King’s on Beale St.

Mr. McMillan has participated for many years in the annual Sweet Soul Music Festival, hosted in Poretta Terme, Italy. In 2001, he was musical director for the festival when it was held in Bologna, Italy, and was a featured performer in the Poretta Soul Festival in July, 2006. In 2007 he performed in The Bellinzona Blues Festival in Switzerland.

The Lannie McMillan Trio/Quartet has been the house band at Owen Brennan’s Restaurant, Memphis, TN since 1991.. They currently perform at many corporate and private functions in the area.

Lannie has taught at St. Agnes Catholic School and Harding Academy. Currently Lannie teaches private lessons and continues to perform around the world.
